Our Projects

The project was delivered under a Design and Build contract, requiring Kin Chiu Engineering to manage geotechnical assessments, drainage modelling, and utility diversions alongside the primary carriageway works. Night-time traffic management schemes were coordinated with the Transport Department to maintain service levels throughout the 18-month construction programme. Completed within programme and budget, the expanded corridor now supports an estimated 85,000 vehicle movements per day.

The 1960s-era reservoir required full internal waterproofing membrane replacement and structural crack injection across 4,200 m² of reinforced concrete. Inlet and outlet pipework was replaced with corrosion-resistant ductile iron sections, and new telemetry instrumentation installed to enable remote level monitoring. Works were carefully sequenced to maintain potable water supply to the surrounding districts throughout the contract period.

Ground conditions in Sha Tin required 42 large-diameter bored piles socketed into Grade III granite at depths of up to 32 m. The transfer plate design placed significant temporary and permanent loads on the substructure, demanding precise concrete pour sequencing and early-age strength monitoring. Kin Chiu Engineering self-performed all piling and concrete frame works under the direct supervision of a resident engineer.

The culvert route passed beneath six heavily trafficked junctions, requiring staged open-cut and pipe-jacking methods to minimise road disruption. Real-time dewatering and groundwater monitoring was maintained throughout to protect the foundations of adjacent three-to-five-storey tenement buildings. The completed system increases the district's stormwater capacity significantly, reducing surface flooding risk during Typhoon Signal 8 rainfall events.

The term contract required full-depth reclamation of the existing asphalt mat, with new binder and wearing courses laid to Transport Department surface regularity tolerances. Works were conducted across 12 separate night-time closures between 23:00 and 05:30, achieving full lane reinstatement before each morning peak. The project demonstrates Kin Chiu Engineering's track record in managing high-traffic arterials with zero unplanned service disruptions.

The former airport site presented challenging ground conditions including variable fill, alluvial deposits, and pockets of marine clay requiring careful classification across the survey area. Boreholes were drilled to depths of up to 40 m, complemented by in-situ standard penetration tests, pressuremeter tests, and undisturbed sampling for laboratory triaxial testing. The resulting geotechnical baseline report formed the foundation for infrastructure design across three separate development parcels within the Kai Tak masterplan.
